What Comes First Roofing or Siding?
When trying to make a choice about whether to start with a new roof or siding, the bottom line is to minimize any potential damage during construction. First decide if you need to replace or repair the roof. If you are planning on replacing your entire roof, you may want to make sure the replacement is done before the siding is replaced.
There are some elements (like flashing) that is integrated into both the siding and the roof and if the siding is done first then it can create double the work. Start with the roofing followed by siding so you minimize the risk of damage.
If the roof is in need of minor repair, then siding may be your best option.
One might ask, can you do both project at once?
The answer is twofold. Do you have the time? If you have the good weather conditions, materials and budget, you can probably do it in a few weeks (or less).
Once you have the answer to those three areas, you can create the project. Make sure to create a contingency fund in case the work does not go as originally planned. This will allow for you to quickly make alternative options.
If you need to replace both, it’s best to replace the roof first. When you replace the roof first, the siding is exposed to less potential damage. If by chance there is damage, it’s ok … because it will be replaced any way.
